about

Recorded during his tenure as an artist practitioner in the New Museum's NEW INC artist incubator program, “A LIGHTFOOT MADE THE PEDAL BREAK” is a 31-minute project born out of the unrest that currently envelopes the United States of America.

Created in response to the soft genocide of black people while the systems that govern them encourage, “A LIGHTFOOT” also touches on issues including gentrification, the right to peacefully protest, gang violence, disproportionate conditions on the Southside of Chicago, discrimination, brutalist architecture, hope, eradicating toxic masculinity, Michael Jackson’s Bad Tour in 1987, citizens having their own “free will” and systemic control - drawing inspiration from crowd-sourced anecdotes and the artists’ personal experiences.

The project is also presented with architectural environments viewable as 3D experiences + visuals. Set in a high-rise gallery (internally known as the B building of the Telex Gallery), the listener can navigate through spaces inspired by the songs on “A LIGHTFOOT MADE THE PEDAL BREAK” - w/ lyrics, production, and code provided by the artist himself.
First crafted in 3D modeling software, then brought to life with code - the project is built on Javascript, three.js, HTML, and WebGL, a web-friendly rendering framework that can produce immersive graphical experiences, for use on both mobile and desktop.

Guests include Sulaiman (previous work w/ Sa-Ra, Freddie Gibbs - Pinata), Devin Kkenny (interdisciplinary artist- Chicago, solo exhibitions in MoMA PS1, Whitney Museum) and buzzing, upcoming East Coast-based underground rap artists Zesto! (Ninja Tune, Sound-Ink) and OptimisGFN (previous work with JPEGMafia, K-The-I???, Daisy Mortem).
